L’Équipe journalist Loïc Tanzi has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain considered making a move for SCO Angers midfielder Azzedine Ounahi (22) before ultimately opting against making a big.
According to Tanzi, PSG sporting consultant Luis Campos held discussions a few weeks ago about making a move for Ounahi, who was one of the breakout stars of the FIFA World Cup with Morocco. The midfielder plays his club football for Angers, who are currently rock bottom of Ligue 1, and the club’s president Saïd Chabane has acknowledged publically that he is powerless to letting the player leave.
However, he won’t be joining Ligue 1 rivals PSG. After the aforementioned discussions, the Parisian club decided not to pursue a deal, as it would entail blocking the path of an academy product. Since Campos’ arrival, a stronger focus has been put on developing Paris’ rich pool of talent and progressing them into the first team. Midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery (16) recently became the youngest player to start an official match for PSG in their Coupe de France victory over the weekend.
Ounahi is attracting interest from clubs across Europe, whilst L’Équipe report that Leeds United and Napoli have tabled offers for the player.
